What the day will look like
During the day we will work through a teaching sequence that is customised to meet the specific needs of these year groups. Using quality texts, we will identify precisely what to teach and practise especially in Reading and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar so that children are engaged and adequately prepared for the end of KS2 tests. There will be an examination of teaching sequences for both fiction and non-fiction units. The illustration below shows how my planning cards can be used to outline a teaching sequence. The planning cards and other resources will be available as a free download.
The statutory assessment and moderation requirements from the DfE gradually evolved over the last year and we will look at the latest developments in this area. If the picture for 2016/17 is not clear on the day of the course, delegates will be able to follow developments on the ‘News’ section of this website.
A specific focus for the day will be the crucial ‘boosting’ period in the run up to SATS. I will share practical and engaging ideas that teachers can use with their children.
All participants will receive a complimentary copy of the book we use to model the teaching sequence so that they can use the ideas and the text immediately if they wish. If Year 5 colleagues attend, they will receive a different book to avoid a clash in future.
