St Oswald’s Primary Academy – Bradford

The new Ofsted framework from September 2019 has Early Reading as main inspection activity. This course will enable practitioners and phase leaders to be fully conversant with the latest requirements for the teaching and assessing of systematic, synthetic phonics.

Outcomes: Participants will be introduced to the principles and practice of phonics teaching, enabling them to plan, teach and assess Phase 1 to Phase 6 of Letters and Sounds.

Target audience: Teachers and Teaching Assistants with little or no experience or formal training in phonics and phase leaders who would like an update.

Course content: Subject knowledge for phonics; the four-part lesson; resources and creative ideas for teaching. Course members will be given access to a range of free downloadable resources.

This is module one of a possible two day course which also includes Early Reading module 2: engaging with stories, poems and non-fiction

Cost: £170 + VAT including refreshments and lunch for the this module only.

£300 + VAT for both modules.

Schools can send different members of staff to each module and still qualify for the reduced rate.
