Retrieve and record information / identify key details from fiction and non-fiction.
The purpose of the reading here is to identify whether the the statement is true or false. This requires pupils to locate the evidence and then closely read the text to see if the statement is true or false. Changing a word, or a digit from a number, means that meticulous reading and attention to detail is needed.
The activity can be extended by asking the pupils to write down two true and one false statement themselves. They then exchange these with other group members and repeat the above process.
