Retrieve and record information / identify key details from fiction and non-fiction.
Make inferences from the text / explained justify inferences with evidence from the text
Resources: Three sheets of A4 lined paper with a different question at the bottom of each one.
Method: Three different questions circulate around the group. In pairs, children read the question, find the answer or evidence in the text and write down the answer. They fold over their answer and pass the paper to the next pair. This continues until all pairs have answered all questions. The teacher then leads feedback and discussion about the answers.
This activity provides written evidence of children’s comprehension. Once children are familiar with the activity, it can be done with individuals answering the questions. I would recommend two lots of the same three questions as six questions are too hard to manage.
