Update: The Writing Framework – DfE – July 2025
There is little that is actually new within the framework. The content echoes the recommendations from the reports published by the DfE and Ofsted over the last two or three years. For Y2 and the KS2 courses there will continue to be an emphasis on the role of sentence level work as a route to composition as recommended by the DfE in their summary.

Content from The Reading Framework (2023) is well established within the courses.
This is an online course delivered via Zoom. The free book will be be delivered to delegates before the course.
The course will incorporate content from the DfE’s new writing framework which is due to be published in July 2025.
Outcomes: Participants will be introduced to a range of engaging teaching and revision techniques to help them to prepare their children for the non-statutory end of KS1 assessments. All delegates will receive free access to online resources.
Target audience: Year 2 teachers or Key Stage 1 phase leaders who are welcome to attend alone, or along with their Year 2 colleagues
Day 1 – Module 1 – Planning effective teaching sequences for fiction in Year 2 and statutory assessment overview (once this is clear)
During this day, we will work through a teaching sequence that is customised to meet the specific needs of this year group. Using quality texts, we will identify precisely what to teach and practise especially in reading, spelling, punctuation, grammar and writing, so that children are both engaged and adequately prepared, for the end of KS1 tests and assessments.
There will be a free copy of a quality fiction text – Orion and the Dark for all attendees.
Day 2 – Module 2
- Planning effective teaching sequences for poetry, non-fiction and reading and writing across the curriculum
- Working at Greater Depth
This module will examine similar teaching sequences for poetry and non-fiction (including reading and writing across the curriculum) and will demonstrate how engaging techniques can support comprehension, punctuation and grammar and writing. Again, test question techniques will be integrated.
There will be a range of strategies and ideas to support the needs of children working at greater depth.
